Hey Team –
In January, President Donald Trump overturned Former President Biden’s executive order about reducing the risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for people like you and me [1]. Earlier this month, world leaders met to agree on commitments around AI with vague plans for action [2]. Our leaders are thinking about the future of AI. The one thing missing from these conversations? Our perspective.
Whether we like it or not, AI is developing rapidly – even while its everyday use case is still being determined. And without our lived experiences being considered, AI could be extremely dangerous. So we want to know: what are you most concerned about when it comes to AI? What should our world leaders be considering as this tech develops?
We know the potential risks of letting Big Tech develop AI unregulated – inherent bias, environmental destruction, and misinformation are just a few. Recently, Google even lifted its longtime ban on the development of AI weapons [3], and no one seemed to bat an eye. It’s unclear if our leaders are taking real dangers into account as they set AI policy. So it’s time they hear from us.
We’ll use these responses to address our AI concerns head-on and let our elected officials know that we care about this issue and we expect them to act with our best interests in mind. After all, their jobs depend on it. Let us know what you’re worried about when it comes to AI now.
It’s past time for elected officials to pay attention to their constituents on this. Make your voice heard now.
In solidarity,
Nicole Gill
