Hi John, it’s Representative Gil Cisneros.
Today, I wanted to reach out directly and give you a better idea of who I am, where I come from, what I stand for, and how I went from this:
|
I was born and raised in Southern California. My grandparents were WWII veterans, my mom was a school cafeteria worker and my dad a factory worker who served in Vietnam. I saw early on in life how hard work, service, and giving back can make an impact here in places like El Monte, Baldwin Park, West Covina, and communities across the San Gabriel Valley.
I was the first in my family to go to college, and I enlisted in the Navy in 1989. After over a decade of service, I worked to build a middle-class life for myself and my family as a logistics manager for Frito-Lay facilities in the City of Industry and Rancho Cucamonga.
My wife Jacki and I dedicated ourselves to philanthropy, with the goal of supporting Latino youth and putting a college degree in every household in communities across the San Gabriel Valley.
After Trump was first elected, I knew I couldn’t sit on the sidelines. I ran for Congress in 2018 because we needed fierce community advocates and in office, I took an uncompromising stance against Trump and his divisive, extremist policies.
In 2021, I was appointed by President Biden to be Under Secretary of Defense. I worked hard to enact policies that protected military personnel and supported their families, including: 1️⃣ lowering costs, 2️⃣ expanding healthcare, 3️⃣ increasing educational opportunities, and 4️⃣ safeguarding individual rights.
When I served in the Navy, I swore an oath to defend our country and uphold the principles of freedom and democracy—that same dedication is what guides all of my work in Washington.
The attacks we'll be seeing from Trump and his MAGA allies have only just begun, and we need a broad grassroots coalition to battle back. Can you join our pro-democracy team and help us fight back against this harmful administration with a contribution today? >>

In service,
Rep. Gil Cisneros
|
As an officer in the U.S. Navy, education nonprofit leader, Congressman, and Under Secretary of Defense, Gil Cisneros has dedicated his life to service, taking action, and getting results for people. From helping open doors of opportunity to San Gabriel Valley students through providing college scholarships, to standing up to the Gun Lobby in Congress, to protecting the right to comprehensive reproductive care for stationed service members while at the Pentagon, Gil has always stood up for his community and California values.
The son of a public school cafeteria worker and a Vietnam veteran, and the grandson of WWII veterans, Gil understood the importance of public service. After graduating high school, Gil enlisted in the U.S. Navy, driven by a desire to serve his nation and a determination to carve out a brighter future. He earned an ROTC Scholarship and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from George Washington University. Gil also holds an MBA from Regis University and M.A. in Urban Education Policy from Brown University.
After the election of Donald Trump, Gil could not sit on the sidelines – he ran for California’s 39th Congressional District and won with the support of middle-class families and labor unions.
Now with MAGA extremists running the House of Representatives, Gil is looking to stand up for the San Gabriel Valley and continue his mission of service, advocating for veterans, gun safety reform, economic opportunity for working families, climate action, and defending women’s rights.
