Creating a brighter future for children in Ethiopia
Access to education ensures children can develop foundational skills, grow socially and pursue their passions. In Ethiopia, where education has been threatened by climate-related disasters, conflict and displacement, an estimated 9 million children have been pushed out of school. Many of these children dream of returning to class to study their favorite subjects and feel a sense of normalcy again. Since 2016, UNICEF and Education Cannot Wait have built or rehabilitated 700 schools and supported 4,000 teachers, impacting nearly 500,00 children.

With critical infrastructure damaged and essential services disrupted, 7.5 million children need humanitarian assistance. UNICEF is mobilizing to strengthen primary health care, help children return to school and create a protective environment for children who’ve faced the trauma of conflict.

A nationwide immunization campaign in Pakistan
Pakistan’s first nationwide polio campaign of 2025 launched the first week of February, aiming to vaccinate over 45.4 million children under the age of 5. More than 400,000 community health workers are going house to house as part of a government-led nationwide polio campaign supported by UNICEF. Before vaccines were available, hundreds of thousands of children were left paralyzed by polio annually.
