Friend — In 2022 Ed led the fight in the Senate to include historic climate provisions and Green New Deal priorities in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

When the IRA was signed into law, states around the country, including Massachusetts, were set to receive funding for clean energy and climate resilience projects.

But when Elon Musk and DOGE took over in January, they took it upon themselves to illegally freeze the funds that were marked for IRA projects.

Some of those projects include removing lead paint and pipes, cleaning up contaminated land, making homes more energy efficient, and installing solar panels in low-income neighborhoods. These are projects with a potential for massive positive impact on our climate, our health, and Massachusetts’s economy.

Thankfully, a federal judge has stepped in and ordered that the funds be released into the communities where they meant to go, but the Trump administration is in many cases refusing to comply.

This is the makings of a constitutional crisis. The president is failing to do his duty and distribute the funds that were passed by Congress and signed into law. And Ed will not stand by while Massachusetts gets stiffed.

Ed has been a consistent leader on tackling the climate crisis throughout his career, and he is going to pull every lever he can to make sure that these crucial funds end up where they belong and that the huge step forward we made with the IRA will not be halted.

Because clean air, clean water, clean energy, and clean communities cannot wait any longer while Donald Trump and Elon Musk play dictator.
