In case you missed it, Trump announced plans to abolish congestion pricing, just as New Yorkers are starting to reap the program’s benefits. He even went so far as to call himself a “king” for doing so.

This kind of rhetoric is inappropriate, unprecedented, and outright dangerous—not to mention a total assault on our constitution and democracy.

We’re committed to defending groundbreaking state policies like congestion pricing, which—after years of analysis, data collection, and community input—is already proving its worth by lowering commute times and easing traffic congestion.

But as we strategize with coalition partners on next steps in this fight, we’re also assessing if the resources we have will be enough to make a meaningful impact. Can you chip in $5, $10, or more today to power this critical state work?

Congestion pricing is not only vital for protecting New York’s air quality, but it’s also good for businesses and the economy—expected to raise $15 billion to improve New York's bus and subway system. With nearly 60 percent of New Yorkers supporting it, Trump’s efforts to undo this program are not only harmful to the city, but also unpopular and undemocratic.

If the federal government can’t be a partner in reshaping how states combat climate pollution, then Evergreen and our movement partners can. Last year, we played a pivotal role in advancing New York's congestion pricing program, including challenging the governor on delaying implementation and working with local partners to help move Governor Hochul to lift the pause. Meanwhile, we’re also pushing her to commit to a “cap-and-invest” program that would dramatically cut pollution and invest billions of dollars annually in communities around the state.
