New Opportunity for AHC to Preserve Affordable Housing
Montgomery County has officially recognized AHC as a qualified entity to partner with the Department of Housing and Community Affairs in using the Right of First Refusal (ROFR) program to preserve naturally occurring affordable housing communities.
This designation is based on AHC’s nonprofit status and significant affordable housing presence in the County. Now we can screen deals we couldn't otherwise access, helping us preserve more affordable housing and keep properties from being sold to market-rate owners.

Award-Winning Volunteer
We’re proud to share that Aliyah, an AHC volunteer, received the Daily Point of Light Award. When Aliyah noticed that many kids in AHC’s Afterschool program didn’t have books at home, she started the One Word Reading Initiative to provide multi-level, diverse books to help AHC students build at-home libraries.
Since December 2023, she’s provided 330 families with over 800 books. We’re grateful for Aliyah’s dedication to our residents. Join us in congratulating her on this incredible honor!
