It is important to me that I keep my supporters up to date on the work I’m doing. Here are some updates on what I’ve been working on in Congress this month:

1. I joined farmers, ranchers, and landowners for the annual Federation of Southern Cooperatives and Land Assistance Fund’s Georgia Farmers Conference , which is an association of black farmers and landowners in the South. While the USDA failed to show up, we have to continue to do our part to ensure we have a seat at the table, diversity of thought, and equal opportunity to participate.

2. I introduced a bill to posthumously award former President Jimmy Carter with the Congressional Gold Medal. Jimmy Carter embodies the best of our country’s ideals; he is a model of compassion, duty, and selfless service. It has been a privilege to know and work with him for over 50 years, and I believe this award will further honor his legacy of service to our nation.

3. I attended the 40th annual Black History Month Observance Breakfast in Columbus, Georgia. Programs like this are essential, it’s important for all Americans to embrace our history — the good, bad, and the ugly — so that we can learn the lessons from our past.
