Back in 2009, I was chosen by President Obama to serve as the NASA Chief of Staff. It was a true honor.

At NASA, people of all stripes put aside self-interest and political differences to move the country forward together. I know more than most: NASA's ability to conduct exploration and science is dependent on its people.

That’s what makes the recent blows to NASA from the White House so devastating.

As you know, the Trump-Musk agenda is wreaking havoc on our institutions with attacks that become more infuriating by the day. Thousands of federal workers have been impacted, and just recently, these terminations and personnel actions have hit employees at NASA, weather forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and more.

Make no mistake: These decisions make our country and our democracy weaker.

Indiscriminately firing the next generation of NASA scientists, engineers and wider team members is exactly the wrong step to secure America's leadership in space. I’m leveraging my position on the Science, Space & Technology Committee in Congress to fight against these setbacks.

I hope to have your continued support in this effort and in keeping CA-27 blue. This seat is already a top GOP target, and losing here would squash our hopes of a Democratic majority to hold this administration accountable.
