MSF is exploring ways to scale up emergency response in Minova, Bukavu, and Uvira. |
In recent weeks, the conflict between the armed group M23/AFC, the Congolese army, and their respective allies has intensified in South Kivu province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is closely assessing the situation and exploring ways to scale up our emergency response in areas in and around Minova, Bukavu, and Uvira.
In the north of the province, where thousands of people have been displaced by the violence, MSF continues to provide support to various departments at Minova General Referral Hospital, three other health centers in Minova health zone, and Numbi health center.
Violence and logistical constraints like the closure of airports are complicating the desperately needed humanitarian response in the region. “We urge all parties to the conflict to ensure the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers, and medical infrastructure and personnel in all areas affected by the conflict,” said Marcus Bachmann, MSF head of programs for South Kivu province.
