John,

It’s been quite a week.

First, Elon Musk and Donald Trump executed a hostile takeover of the Social Security Administration, forcing out the Acting Commissioner and appointing a DOGE lapdog in her place.1

Washington Post headline: Top Social Security official exits after clash with Musk's DOGE over data.

Then, Musk and Trump spread viral misinformation about Social Security, falsely claiming that there were “millions” of people fraudulently claiming Social Security benefits. These lies are being told to numb the American people to the massive cuts that Republicans in Congress are planning.

House Republicans are preparing a budget package that calls for $2 trillion in cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. That’s TRILLION. With a T.

Finally, after being narrowly confirmed with just 51 of the 53 Republicans voting for him, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that Musk told him of a plan to cut at least $1 trillion from our earned benefits. Lutnick told Fox News:2

You know Social Security is wrong, you know Medicaid and Medicare are wrong. So he’s gonna cut a trillion.

Social Security Works has been in the NY Times, Washington Post, and NBC News this week, pushing back. And our coalition has sent more than 250,000 messages to members of Congress demanding they pledge no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid! Can you chip in to keep fighting back?
