Some Democrats are ready to work with Trump on immigration. Will he take the opportunity?

President Trump has made immigration a centerpiece of his agenda, signing a flurry of executive orders to tighten asylum rules, send the National Guard to the border, and even attempt to end birthright citizenship. But here is the reality: Executive orders are temporary. They do not change the law, and the next president can reverse them just as easily as Trump signed them.

Real, lasting change requires Congress. And there are commonsense Democrats willing to work with Trump to make that happen – if he is willing to engage.

That is what I lay out in my new op-ed in The Hill: the real opportunity Trump has to achieve lasting reform and the six Democrats who are open to working with him. If he wants to fix immigration for good, he cannot wait until a crisis forces his hand. He needs to start building those relationships now.
