Friend,
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Senator Ruben Gallego didn’t hold back when discussing where Democrats fell short in 2024—and why we ultimately lost to Trump and the GOP.
Senator Gallego made one thing clear: Democrats need to rethink how we communicate.
He pointed out that while Trump relied on simple, memorable one-liners, Democrats often spoke in ways that felt overly intellectual or disconnected from everyday voters. His message? We need to be more direct, clear, and relatable.
The Senator also urged Democrats to stop being afraid to talk to certain voters: Don’t be afraid to talk to all voters, even in the reddest areas. And, don’t shy away from talking to voters who might criticize Democrats. He said we have to meet voters where they are.
And perhaps most importantly, Senator Gallego called out our failure to meaningfully address economic anxieties—especially the skyrocketing cost of housing. Owning a home is at the heart of the American Dream, yet Democrats didn’t drive home a clear message about how we would tackle this crisis.
The good news? We can fix this. And we must—because 2026 and 2028 are right around the corner.
Here’s something you might not know: our work in 2024 helped propel Senator Gallego across the finish line. He won Maricopa County by 5.3%, significantly outperforming his statewide margin of 2.44%. The voter mobilization we spearheaded in Maricopa made the difference between victory and a Kari Lake win.
Our work at MCDP doesn’t just impact county races—it drives turnout that helps Democrats win up and down the ballot.
Now, we need to do it again.
Donate today to help us scale up our voter mobilization efforts for 2026—because winning back the U.S. House, protecting our statewide incumbents, and stopping Trump’s dangerous agenda starts right here in Maricopa County.
