Team — It’s Ed. I want to tell you a story about corruption under Donald Trump’s presidency.

In 2022 we passed historic climate investments, and that included my push for a National Climate Bank that would invest in clean energy projects around the country.

And of course, with Trump and Elon Musk illegally slashing everything they don’t like from the budget, the climate bank has been in their sights.

The new head of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, has made it clear that he will try to rescind $20 billion in climate bank grants awarded by the Biden administration.

The problem is they have no legal authority to do so.

So they decided to go to the Department of Justice, and put pressure on an Assistant U.S. Attorney to find evidence of a crime as a justification for freezing the release of these billions of dollars in congressionally approved federal funds.

When the Assistant Attorney refused to open a criminal investigation into the vendors involved in the climate bank, she was forced to resign . She refused to play ball with Trump’s weaponization and politicization of the DOJ, and so she was forced out of her job.

Let me summarize this simply. The Trump administration wanted to freeze funds without legal authority, so they decided to start a DOJ witch hunt to get it done.

My colleagues in the Senate and I are now calling on the Office of the Inspector General to immediately open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this resignation and the broader pattern of political interference in prosecutorial decisions.
