House Happenings this week

Shane
Jones: We will turn the tables on woke-riddled banking
behaviour.
The week after we introduced it to the ballot box, New Zealand
First’s Member’s Bill to stop ‘woke’ banking regulations was pulled
from the ballot box!
New Zealand First’s ‘Financial Markets (Conduct of Institutions)
Amendment (Duty to Provide) Amendment Bill’ intends to prevent banks
from refusing their services to businesses because of the current
“Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Framework”.
“This Bill ensures fairness and prevents ESG standards from
perpetuating woke ideology in the banking sector being driven by
unelected, globalist, climate radicals” - Rt Hon Winston
Peters
We look forward to debating this Bill as it goes through the
house.

New Zealand First backs pragmatic, commonsense legislation. And we
have supported a recent Member’s Bill from Labour to criminalise
intentional wage theft. Backing small business as well as workers, New
Zealand First made an amendment to the Bill to ensure that complaints
arising from a mistake or short-term cash flow issue do not amount to
an offence.
“We were concerned that this well-meaning legislation may
criminalise pay roll mistakes or cash flow issues. We are satisfied
that our amendment paper addresses this, and the legislation will not
unfairly affect the vast majority of law-abiding employers” - Mark
Patterson.
Casey Costello spoke of our stance in the house this week and we
look forward to seeing its progression. Listen HERE.

Casey Costello spoke on behalf of New Zealand First to show our
support for the Sentencing Reform Amendment Bill. We continue to
prioritise law and order and believe that victims need to be at the
heart of the justice system. Hear Casey’s full speech HERE.
It was fantastic to have the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment
to providing 500 additional police as stated in our coalition
agreement. New Zealand First has a record of increasing police and we
will continue to back our frontline police officers. Winston
Peters reaffirmed this stance as the Acting Prime Minister during
the week:
Casey, as Associate Minister of Police, also welcomed the new
Police marketing campaign this week, which will recreate the ‘He Ain’t
Heavy’ ad from the 1990s. Current frontline police and other emergency
service personnel, along with their families, will feature as part of
the campaign to show the incredible work our frontline services
contribute to look after Kiwis and their communities.
“To get 500 extra frontline Police and improve the safety of
our communities we need to keep that pipeline going, and I’m sure this
new campaign will help keep the number of high-quality applicants
flowing.” – Casey Costello

List MP Tanya Unkovich took the call for New Zealand First in the
general debate this week. As always, Tanya spoke passionately about
freedom and the fundamental values of New Zealand First, and their
effect on nationwide issues affecting Kiwis; local referendums,
fluoridation, and the covid inquiry. Listen in full HERE.
