Indigenous lands are being stolen by governments and conservation organizations, but Indigenous peoples are resisting. Stand with them during Act for Survival week.

Dear Jack,

The second Act for Survival – our week of community and supporter action for Indigenous rights – starts on Monday.

This year, we’ll highlight the courageous resistance of Indigenous peoples who are targeted by “fortress conservation” projects around the world that have their roots in violent colonial practices and attitudes.

Hundreds of thousands of Indigenous people are at risk. Thousands are being forcibly evicted, and many endure unspeakable violence, from murder to sexual abuse and torture. All of this is happening in the name of ‘conservation.’

Act to stop fortress conservation

Indigenous lands are being stolen by governments and conservation organizations to create Protected Areas and National Parks. As Indigenous peoples are evicted, their ways of life are criminalized – with devastating consequences. Those who resist are beaten, tortured, raped and even murdered by armed park rangers funded by organizations like WWF and African Parks.

Write to funders of fortress conservation

Indigenous peoples live in many of the most biodiverse areas around the world, and are the best conservationists. They are not responsible for the global environmental crisis, and the so-called solutions should not come at the expense of their rights and ways of life.

This week we’ll share four heart-breaking true stories of Karani, Raj Kumar, Ella and Billy.

Stand with Indigenous peoples now

Please read them – and then help us put an end to these abuses and the colonial model of conservation. Mobilize with thousands of others in our movement and take part in Act for Survival by:

Sending an email to the major funders of “fortress conservation” projects asking them to stop

Sharing this infographic with your community to spread our message: put it up in your neighborhood, send it to your friends and family, and share it on your social media.

If you can, joining our vigils for the victims of “fortress conservation” in London or New York.

Last year, you made Act for Survival one of the most impactful weeks of action of the year. We’re counting on you once again to do what you do best.

In solidarity,
