VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump crashes and burns in disaster appearance on stage at CPAC
The president showcased his own senility and very tenuous grasp on history, reality, and basic human decency in a stunning CPAC speech that proved once again just how deluded the man in charge of this country really is. Whoever told Trump about William McKinley has a LOT to answer for.

Trump fires top military leaders in unprecedented shakeup
President Donald Trump fired Chair of the Joint Chiefs Gen. C.Q. Brown on Friday night, and said he intends to dismiss the Navy’s top admiral and the Air Force’s second in command — an unprecedented shakeup of the Pentagon’s top brass that will trigger ripple effects throughout the military. The firings wipe away decades of military experience and could create a cascade of hasty promotions down the ranks that impact U.S. leadership across the globe. "Well, f*ck," said one defense official. The purpose of these firings is clear: replacing Black and female leaders with white men who fulfill the only qualification that matters to Trump, which is unquestioning loyalty.

Elon Musk drops money bomb on critical state Supreme Court race
WisDems: There’s a must-win state Supreme Court election in Wisconsin on April 1st — and Elon Musk just dropped half a million dollars into attack ads in an attempt to steal back the court for Republicans and put anti-abortion extremist Brad Schimel into power. Wisconsin is one of the most important swing states in the country and the integrity of our future elections is at serious risk if the GOP retakes control of the state’s highest court. Will you make a donation to Wisconsin Democrats and help stop Elon from buying ANOTHER election with his dark money?
We are on the road for democracy and justice
Sen. Bernie Sanders, The Guardian: "I will be doing town meetings in Omaha, Nebraska, this Friday night [Editor's note: 2600 people showed up!] and Iowa City, Iowa, on Saturday morning. Further, in the coming weeks and months, I and other progressives will be holding grassroots events from coast to coast. Why, at this moment, are we doing town meetings around the country – especially in conservative areas? The answer is obvious. Trumpism will not be defeated by politicians inside the DC beltway. It will only be defeated by millions of Americans, in every state in this country, coming together in a strong, grassroots movement which says no to oligarchy, no to authoritarianism, no to kleptocracy, no to massive cuts in programs that working people desperately need, no to huge tax breaks for the richest people in our country. And that’s what these events are about. Can Trumpism be defeated? Absolutely! But, if we’re going to make that happen, we need to know exactly what we’re up against and how we can best go forward. Today, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck; millions are earning starvation wages; 85 million are uninsured or under-insured; young people are unable to afford the cost of college; 25% of seniors live on $15,000 a year or less; we have the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost any major country on earth, and we have a major shortage in low-income and affordable housing. Our struggle, the American people’s struggle, is to protect democracy and the rule of law. Equally important, we must end oligarchy and create an economy that works for all, not just the few. We are the wealthiest country on earth and AI, robotics and other new technologies will only make our country wealthier. It is absurd, unjust and inhumane that virtually all of that new wealth being created goes to the people who need it the least. In the coming weeks the Republicans in Congress will be bringing forward a major piece of legislation, a 'reconciliation' bill, that encapsulates the value system of greed and their obedience to oligarchy. It is the economic essence of Trumpism. It must be defeated and we can defeat it. This is a perilous moment in American history. Let us go forward together."

This executive order reveals the Trump-Musk endgame
Elie Mystal, The Nation: "The orders and actions of Donald Trump and his copresident Elon Musk are all part of a piece. The most obvious goal is to establish authoritarian, single-party control in the United States of America, and we know that because they wrote down their plan in Project 2025 and have been executing that plan every day since they took office. But we should understand why they want such power. It’s not just so they can win the culture wars; Trump and Musk are misogynists and provable racists, but their hatred of women and Black people (and gay people and trans people and Latino people and Muslim people and truth and science and journalism and fact-based reality) are all just their means to an end. The thing Trump and Musk value most of all is money. Their entire regime is best understood as a criminal junta whose end goal is to redirect the wealth of the nation into their own pockets. They are running a kleptocracy, and they’ve figured out that facism is actually the quickest path to riches. They’re the encapsulation of Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Hans Gruber, the villain in Die Hard, taken to its logical conclusion. They talk like megalomaniacal populists, but they’re really just common thieves—or, well, exceptional thieves, given their success rate. If you understand the thievery that underpins this entire administration, you’ll understand that Trump’s recent executive order aimed at destroying independent regulatory agencies is an essential part of the overall plot. Independent regulatory agencies are things like the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Federal Elections Commission. These institutions were set up by Congress and are made up of commissioners appointed by the president. They are authorized to promote regulations over the industries and business sectors they oversee. They are the parts of the federal government most businesses interact with. They are the only real day-to-day check on unrestrained capitalism in our system of government. Trump’s executive order is aimed at incapacitating these governmental crossing guards, for the obvious reason that they are the only things stopping the owner class from making even more money."
