Email from Political Research Associates Plus a recording on the NAR and its threat to democracy January/February 2025 This is a moment for resistance. For standing in opposition to the rapid destruction of our freedoms, and of our democratic norms. But, now is also a moment to coalesce around what comes next. In PRA’s framework to Block | Build | Transform, we cannot and will not lose sight of transformation even as the monumental task to Block is at hand. And together we are building a coalition: a mass movement in pursuit of a transformational future rooted in justice and thriving. If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to read the latest issue of The Public Eye magazine with its stories of resistance that take inspiration from the movements that have come before. And join us as we pivot to meet the moment, continuing to publish robust analysis of the threats at hand but also, importantly, increasing opportunities for convergence and strategizing within a growing and mobilized Left. PRA will be offering regular briefings and strategy calls focused on different sectors of the ruling Right; join us for these important conversations. In Case You Missed It The February issue of The Atlantic magazine features a major article by Stephanie McCrummen titled, The Army of God Comes Out of the Shadows: Tens of millions of American Christians are embracing a charismatic movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation, which seeks to destroy the secular state. It’s a hair-raising read for those who value secular government, religious pluralism and separation of church and state—not to mention LGBTQ civil rights, reproductive justice, and public education. The NAR seeks to dominate all areas of life and some think it may take a religious war to get there. In response, PRA hosted a webinar on February 13th, 2025, where panelists discussed the article from The Atlantic, and broke down the impact of the NAR on democracy. A second part of this conversation on the NAR will be hosted on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 2:30 PM ET/11:30 AM PT. More details to come! Watch Here Upcoming Events Harnessing Our Power to End Political Violence (HOPE-PV) Training on Resisting Political Violence Join PRA on February 26th, 2025 at 2:30 PM ET/11:30 AM PT for a training on resisting political violence. PRA, together with the The Horizons Project, 22nd Century Initiative and core partners have developed the Harnessing Our Power to End Political Violence (HOPE-PV) project, built on backfire principles that turn violence into a disadvantage for perpetrators by imposing social, political, and economic costs. These principles include public exposure, humanizing victims, coalition building, imposing costs, and amplifying facts. By mobilizing these principles, HOPE-PV makes political violence backfire, turning community outrage and collective action into powerful tools for social resilience and accountability. Register Here Countering Hindu Supremacy and the Multiracial Far Right Amidst the Authoritarian Onslaught: A PRA and Savera Briefing Join PRA and our partner Savera on March 26th, 2025 at 2:00 PM ET/11:00 AM PT for a discussion on Hindu Supremacy and the Multiracial Far Right. We're facing an unprecedented authoritarian resurgence, with attacks on all our communities, a blatant executive power grab, and similar far-right blueprints being used across the world. But fear, while legitimate, will only serve to immobilize us. Our path forward needs sharp, nuanced analysis, and a unified path forward grounded in empowerment and hope. In this webinar, we'll answer questions like: Why are some communities of color moving into this authoritarian coalition (what scholars call a 'multiracial Far Right’)? What is the Hindu supremacist movement, in India and then in the U.S.? What is its relationship to the broader U.S. far right, and why is it aligning itself ever closer to the MAGA coalition, celebrating the likes of Tulsi Gabbard, Vivek Ramaswamy and Kash Patel? What role are Hindu supremacists likely to play in the ongoing multi-pronged MAGA onslaught? How are actors in the multiracial Far Right leveraging their status as minorities to attack civil rights gains and divide our coalitions? We’ll also talk about: Where the Far Right, in contrast to a lot of public messaging, is internally divided What should we be prepared for in the coming months How we we can build our collective power This will be an interactive briefing, so bring your thoughts, your ideas, and questions!
