John, right now we are witnessing a top-down attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion—an attack that directly undermines worker protections.
These attacks are part of a larger strategy to maintain a system where Black labor is exploited and Black voices are silenced. By actively dismantling the very protections that ensure Black workers—especially Black domestic workers—have a fighting chance to thrive, the anti-care movement leaves them even more vulnerable to economic hardship and systemic injustice.
This country is at a crossroads. We can accept Black domestic workers and others being pushed further into the margins, or we can unite and fight for a future where everyone is valued and protected.
We Dream in Black chooses collective care and power, not invisibility. Your contribution directly supports Black domestic workers on the frontlines. Donate today and build that future.
For 250 years, Black women were enslaved in white households. Following emancipation, Black domestic workers worked for another 100 years without basic labor rights. Today, they often lack essential protections.
This wasn't accidental—it was policy.
When labor protections were finally won, domestic workers—overwhelmingly Black women—were intentionally excluded. Lawmakers deliberately denied Black workers the same rights afforded others, aiming to keep their labor cheap and exploitable.
While laws have changed, this systemic exclusion continues today. Too many Black domestic workers are still denied paid sick leave, experience wage theft, and are undervalued.
But we're fighting back.
We Dream in Black is building a future where Black labor is not just seen, but valued. Where protections aren't privileges, but rights. Where no one is pushed to the margins.
Your donation today to We Dream in Black fuels this movement. Every dollar brings us closer to a world where Black domestic workers finally receive the dignity and respect they deserve.
Black domestic workers have been excluded, underpaid, and overlooked for too long—by design.
We can accept this exploitation, or we can fight for a future where they are protected, respected, and paid fairly. We Dream in Black, fueled by our worker leaders, is leading this fight—will you stand with us?
In gratitude,
