Reforming our Federal Budget

As Chairman of Congressional Hispanic Conference, I am committed to fighting for policies that protect the American Dream. Part of that means limiting our federal debt so that future generations are not crippled by excessive spending. 

On the other hand, we MUST protect federal programs that empower our communities to be safer, healthier, and more prosperous.

 This week, I led my Republican colleagues in a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson urging Congress to enact a budget that:

(A) Invests in our national defense and border security;

(B) Cuts government waste and excessive spending;

(C) Avoids severe cuts to Medicaid, Pell Grants, and SNAP 

We can CUT our debt and support President Trump's agenda WHILE empowering Texans with programs that improve their lives, incomes, and well-being.

On the Ground in El Paso

Wednesday morning, I met with the 1st Armored Division and Major General Curtis Taylor at Fort Bliss.

It was good to hear more about the Old Ironsides missions at hand—our soldiers are among the best of the best.

I also visited Biggs Airfield and Joint Task Force North where I saw our military working side by side with law enforcement to secure our borders.

As of this week, 23 migrant removal flights have been conducted by ICE at Biggs Airfield. When I was here just a few weeks ago, these flights were barely getting off the ground. 

I fully support all the personnel who are working around the clock to to restore law and order across our nation.

Later, I visited the Border Patrol's Special Operations Group headquarters on Fort Bliss.

From counter-terrorism efforts to hostage rescues to providing critical trauma and medical responses, our Border Patrol SOG units are always ready to respond in high-risk situations.

Visiting Ciudad Juárez

The U.S. and Mexico will always be neighbors and should be strong partners on security, the economy, and much more.

While on the ground in Ciudad Juarez, I met with Mexican officials, including the Mayor of Ciudad Juárez, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, and representatives from the Chihuahua state government.

I am dedicated to finding solutions to problems that affect us on both sides of the border.

I also visited the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juárez, which is doing top-tier work to uphold our legal immigration system and keep it free from fraud.

In addition, the operations conducted here are critical to the fight against organized crime across our southern border.
