House Republicans are moving fast to push through a radical budget that would rip away healthcare, food, and other critical services from millions of working people. They’re coming for Medicaid, SNAP (food assistance), student loan programs, and more―and it’s all to fund a $5 trillion tax giveaway mostly for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.[1]

Here’s what these devastating cuts would mean for millions of Americans:

• 36 million people could lose Medicaid under their draconian new red-tape requirements, which would kick eligible people off of Medicaid.[2]

• Over 40 million people, including millions of children, could see their food assistance slashed either by cutting the already-modest daily SNAP benefit of $6.20 per person to just $4.80; by limiting a beneficiary's nutrition benefits to only three months out of every three years if they can’t document that they’ve worked a certain number of hours or show they’re exempt; or by changing the structure of SNAP and forcing states to cut benefits, eligibility, or both.[3]

• College students and borrowers will face higher student-loan costs and fewer financial-aid options, making it harder to afford higher education.

This is working-family sabotage disguised as “fiscal responsibility.” The GOP wants you to believe these cuts are about balancing the budget, but in reality, they’re meant to fund tax breaks for billionaires, corporations, and the wealthiest 1%.
