The upcoming state Supreme Court is going to play an enormous role, not only in shaping the future of freedom and democracy and workers’ rights, but as an institution that can provide a check on the Trump administration and on what MAGA Republicans are trying to do.
That’s why the state Supreme Court race, and all the other races that will be decided on April 1, will have a profound effect on the level of damage Trump can cause and on what we can do to rebuild. We're already seeing in other states, in Iowa and Minnesota, special elections that have swung sharply towards Democrats because, as the fear and outrage about what Trump is doing escalates, people are finding ways to channel that into work on elections.
We are like the antibody in the country to this virus that's being injected from the top. We can build the immune system of the country to reject this kind of extremism and hatred and plutocracy. We can build in our state—and help to spread and inspire people in other states—a spirit of actually believing that all of us, no matter where we live, or what we look like, or what language we speak, that all of us are human beings who deserve dignity and respect.
Wisconsin is the only state with a giant election coming a few months after Trump’s reelection. Let’s use this opportunity to keep the pressure on Trump and the MAGA extremists.
