Dear ,

Thank you so much for reading this month’s Truth of the Matter, Poynter’s monthly newsletter for members. We’ve been thrilled by the positive response to our new membership program and want to extend a warm welcome if you’re reading for the first time.

Poynter’s National Advisory Board recently met at our St. Petersburg office to discuss the critical challenges facing journalism. Our conversations centered on protecting press freedoms and meeting the needs of local newsrooms — work made possible by the invaluable support of members like you. In this edition, Neil Brown, Poynter’s president, recaps key takeaways from the meeting.

Thank you again for supporting Poynter. Please feel free to reach out at any time.

Conversations about journalism made possible by you!

, I wanted to provide a glimpse into the exhilarating thought leadership that took place in Poynter’s St. Petersburg campus during our annual National Advisory Board meeting. News leaders from across the media industry came together to provide Poynter with strategic guidance as we chart our path forward. Their commitment to reinforcing our mission, recommending new directions and identifying opportunities to expand our revenue and reach was energizing.

The topics discussed were rich and timely, including how artificial intelligence is transforming journalism, legal threats to a free press, and the relationship between social media influencers and traditional journalism. Each conversation was lively and thought-provoking.

A standout panel discussion was moderated by Poynter's International Fact-Checking director Angie Drobnic Holan. She and experts from NPR and Politico examined strategies to uphold factual journalism while rebuilding trust with audiences. You can watch the full conversation here ([link removed]) .

As Poynter celebrates its 50th year, I'm grateful for each of you reading this message. Your support makes these conversations possible and ensures we can continue serving journalism, the public and democratic ideals for generations to come. Thank you for standing with us.
