Friend, Supermarkets across the US are using and leaking super-pollutants that threaten our climate. These pollutants are gases called HFCs used in refrigeration – with up to 9,000 times the warming power of CO2. And the average supermarket leaks a quarter of them each year, equivalent to emissions of more than 300 cars! Our Cool It campaign is pushing for change throughout the sector, but we also want to thank the few supermarkets already using sustainable HFC-free alternatives and to urge them to do more to help fight climate change and reduce emissions in the recovery from the COVID-19 health crisis. Join us in thanking the supermarkets taking action to address the climate crisis! At a time when supermarkets have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 health crisis, we’re teaming up with our friends at Environmental Investigation Agency to express gratitude to the brave workers providing critical services and thank these supermarkets for acting on the climate crisis. HFC gases commonly leak out through faulty refrigeration equipment or improper disposal and go into the atmosphere to rapidly escalate the climate crisis. We need companies to take action and cool it for climate by going HFC-free! Fortunately, there are stores in the US with sustainable refrigerant practices and you can thank them today with these steps: - Check this Climate-Friendly Supermarket map to see if there is a store near you.
- Click on a store location to send a thank you message.
- If there isn’t a store near you, urge for more HFC-free supermarkets here!
Thank you for joining us in raising more attention to this critical issue and thanking the stores who are committed to being HFC-free. For people and the planet, |
