Pittsburgh famously emerged from the collapse of steel and iron as a hub for education and health care, cutting an early model for post-industrial revival.

Largely because of that higher ed presence, the Steel City has in recent branched into tech fields like AI and robotics, and could now be poised for a leading role in green energy production ([link removed]) .
