First DOGE Report
Last week we teased our government waste report to the Texas House's DOGE Committee, and the first one is finally here. At the bottom of this section, you can find the entire report, but we'll put a few highlights here:
- The Texas Government spends $5 million per year on late payment fees.
- Six-figure foreign travel expenditures from employee retirement funds.
- $11 million spent on "long-distance communications charges."
- $60 million per year for the Texas Lottery to pay its friends.
- 100% of Broadband Infrastructure Fund spending has gone to late fees and consultants.
- $15 million per year is given to organizations like the Austin Gay Men's Chorus.
- $21 million per year for Media Subscriptions ($30k per year to the left-wing, anti-Abbott Quorum Report).
This is just scratching the surface. Just this week, we've identified at least $200,000,000 of clearly wasteful spending. But it's worse than that. Some expenditures are covered up to the degree that we can't fully identify any wasteful or fraudulent elements, but are still obviously suspect.
We hope that the Committee will use its power to compel testimony and documents to get to the bottom of these suspicious expenditures. Between the suspicious contracts, consulting fees, and other expenditures, there is an opportunity for the State of Texas to save billions of dollars per year. For example, just one business consultancy firm receives $2 billion per year in taxpayer dollars.
The entire 6-page report can be found on our website here. It will be distributed to the members of the Committee as well with the hope that they will take quick action to cut waste in our government. This will not be the only report - next week's will contain massive waste.
