John, the budget plan that House Republicans have rallied behind is a disaster.
Dave Loebsack reached out to you last week about its terrible implications for nutritional assistance. Today, we want to dive into some numbers about the plan's impact here in the Midwest when it comes to healthcare.
In total, the GOP is preparing to cut Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion. That's a devastating betrayal of millions of working families who rely on the program to cover basic healthcare costs.
If they support this budget this is how many of their constituents that several Midwest Republicans are hanging out to dry:
- Iowa's 1st District (represented by Mariannette Miller-Meeks) – 153,000 Medicaid enrollees
- Iowa's 3rd District (represented by Zach Nunn) – 176,600 Medicaid enrollees
- Michigan's 7th District (represented by Tom Barrett) – 123,800 Medicaid enrollees
- Michigan's 10th District (represented by John James) – 183,900 Medicaid enrollees
- Nebraska's 2nd District (represented by Don Bacon) – 127,300 Medicaid enrollees
- Wisconsin's 3rd District (represented by Derrick van Orden) – 132,700 Medicaid enrollees
At least 120,000 seniors and children in each of these districts are at risk of losing healthcare coverage if their Republican representatives fail to show some spine and oppose the budget.
It's up to us to keep the pressure on Midwest Republicans like these — and show them that if they side with cruel legislation over the needs of their constituents, we're ready to show them the door in 2026.
It's going to take a wide organizing, mobilizing, and communications effort to get the job done, but we all can play our parts. Will you chip in to help Midwest Majority PAC reach folks in our target districts and build grassroots strength that can manifest at the ballot box?
More soon,
Team MMP
