Making good on a campaign pledge to shake up the senior military ranks to
ensure a focus on his policy priorities, President Trump on Friday night took
the extraordinary step of firing the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and
five more senior Pentagon officers. The fired chair, Air Force Gen. Charles Q.
Brown Jr., had only served two-and-a-half years of his four-year term.
