Smiles
It was reported today that Roberta Flack, one of the most important musicians of the 1970s, died today at 88. My mother LOVED Roberta Flack. Some of my earliest memories are listening to Flack in the car on the radio or at home spinning one of her masterful records. Before her star rose, Flack was a Washington, DC school teacher who honed her skills in a small nightclub on Capitol Hill.
Flack’s smash 1973 hit, “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” is a classic that never goes out of style. |
