John,
I will be the first to admit that I am lucky to be where I am today. I couldn’t do what I do today without the support of all of my family.
After my father passed away when I was young, I was raised by my mother and the help of the surrounding community. I learned that you are only as strong as the people that surround you.
Growing up, my mother held me accountable and pushed me to be the best person I could be. She sent me to military school and I ended up joining the Army, where I learned some of the core values I hold to this day.
I also owe my aunt for introducing me to the love of my life: Dawn Moore. We were set up on a blind date, and immediately hit it off. A coffee date turned into a dinner which turned into the best years of my life.
Now, we have two wonderful children, Mia and James, and our dog Tucker, and live happily in Government House, or as we like to call it, the People’s House.
All of the people in my life have shaped the way I approach being Maryland’s governor: with care and accountability. I seek to make sure that I treat each Marylander as though they are a part of my own family.
One of Maryland’s great strengths is the support our communities give each other. I know that firsthand. By joining together, we’ll make this Maryland’s decade.
Elevate,
Wes
