1. Play Procedural Hardball (aka the McConnell Method)

Mitch McConnell kindly gave Senate Democrats a tutorial on how to control politics from the minority: the McConnell Method, AKA taking advantage of Senate procedures, bucking political norms, and forcing debate on our own terms.

• Filibustering decisions on the Senate floor
• Withholding unanimous consent
• Investigating and exposing MAGA corruption
• Forcing extended debates over every detail of a bill

If we employ the McConnell Method effectively, Senate Democrats can grind Trump's legislative agenda to a halt.

2. Stonewall Trump's Nominees

Spineless MAGA senators have already installed Trump’s Cabinet nominees, but there are still dozens of high-level judicial and executive positions to fill — especially now that the Trump/Musk administration has purged the federal government of experienced civil servants.

Senate Democrats can use the McConnell Method: filibuster, delay, grill, avoid, and withhold confirmations for key nominees indefinitely, making day-to-day operations for the MAGA regime as difficult as possible.

3. Enlist Effective Messengers

Strong messengers who can break through MAGA’s media stranglehold are vital to help Americans understand the consequences of Trump and Musk’s actions.

Senate Democrats are already calling upon renowned issue experts, public figures, and power-brokers to help channel public anger against Trump into action, influence public opinion, and offer Americans an alternative to MAGA’s narrative.

4. Embrace Opposition

Democrats are now an opposition party, and we MUST embrace it unapologetically. That means aggressively resisting Trump's agenda and making sure the public knows how and why.

• Ignoring illegal executive actions
• Rejecting the far-right’s B.S. demands for “unity”
• Refusing to give oxygen to MAGA propaganda
• Focusing ONLY on real issues for working families, not Trump’s made-up distractions
• Sounding the alarm on all forms of media about Trump’s failures to lower inflation, energy prices, healthcare costs, and more

5. Exploit Internal Divisions

The first month of Trump’s power trip has Republicans quietly on edge.

Not every Senate MAGA is cool with having a national security threat in charge of national intelligence, letting an unhinged billionaire override Congressional decisions, and giving conspiracy peddlers the power to cause a measles outbreak.

The cracks are forming. Now is the time to exploit them.

Senate Democrats recently launched an anonymous whistleblower tipline for federal employees to expose corruption and crimes inside Trump’s administration.

They must continue to expose the dissatisfaction with Trump among Senate Republicans and build strategic alliances to oppose his deranged agenda and save democracy.
