Dear John,

Throughout history, Black communities have turned to education as a tool for liberation. During the Civil Rights Movement, Freedom Schools emerged as spaces for collective learning, organizing, and resistance – equipping Black youth and adults with the knowledge to challenge injustice and build a just future.

This Black History Month, we invite you to carry forward that legacy by joining one of our racial equity trainings. In this pivotal political moment, shared learning is not just an act of education – it is an act of resistance.

Why Freedom Schools Matter Today

In the summer of 1964, Freedom Summer activists established over 40 Freedom Schools across the South, educating thousands on Black history, political empowerment, and strategies for dismantling systemic racism. These schools weren’t just about learning; they were about building power and preparing people to take action.

Today, we face new challenges – but the need for race-explicit, justice-centered learning spaces remains. Just as Freedom Schools helped equip people to fight segregation and voter suppression, our trainings provide the tools to address systemic racism in policies, institutions, and daily decision-making.

Power Building for Racial Equity (PRE)
Next session — April 29

The Power Building for Racial Equity (PRE) workshop dives into how power shapes both systemic racism and the path toward racial justice. While systemic racism operates through hierarchical and oppressive power, achieving racial justice requires building power that is inclusive, collective, and liberatory. This workshop offers a space to explore how to transform power structures in your racial justice work, both within organizations and in the wider community, equipping you with insights, strategies, and tools to drive intentional, just change.
