This Black History Month, we’re reminded that Black history itself is under direct attack.

Linda McMahon, President Trump's nominee to lead the U.S. Department of Education recently refused to guarantee that classes on Black history would be allowed under Trump's executive order on "radical indoctrination." In her view, learning about the struggles Black people have faced and continue to face is too “tough” and should be censored.
This is the person Donald Trump wants to oversee our children’s education? This is the person he wants to shape how our children learn about our history?
Let me say this clearly: Black history is not radical. Black History is our history. It is American History. It is our story.
An accurate understanding of Black history is crucial to building a better future. History isn’t something to shy away from. It’s something to learn from, celebrate, and understand in all its complexity.
We cannot let people like Linda McMahon rewrite it or erase our history altogether.
