[1]Mark Kelly for Senate

Team — I voted against all four of President Trump’s nominees for cabinet positions two weeks ago — including Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.. Last week week, I voted against Kash Patel as FBI Director.

I want to underscore something here, because it’s especially unique to this administration: Many of these nominees are historically unqualified — oftentimes dangerously so. I think a lot of my colleagues across the aisle know that, but they’re approving them almost unanimously.

It’s a deep concern to me. The Trump Administration, seemingly led by Elon Musk, is taking unprecedented and unconstitutional action to undermine Congress — representatives and senators elected by their constituents. Trump appointees are enabling that.

This is testing the separation of powers, and that’s important enough that all of us should speak out about it. But beyond that, it’s going to do real harm. As Elon Musk illegally dismantles these agencies, millions are going to be affected.

Think about people who depend on Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security. Kids supported by Department of Education programs. Farmers who send their crops as humanitarian aid to people in need around the globe. People suffering from debilitating injury or disease who depend on cutting edge research from the National Institutes of Health for cures or therapies. Pilots who look to the National Weather Service to give them a good forecast before they take off. I could go on all day.

These cuts have a real impact, a real human cost. And, apparently, they’re all in service of guys like Elon Musk. They are gutting health care and services that millions depend on to pay for a massive, trillion-dollar tax cut that will benefit the wealthiest people in the country.

That doesn’t square with me, and I’ll give you my word: I’m doing what I can — whatever I can, looking at every option — to combat this. It’s tough, because Republicans control every branch of government, but one thing I will never be is silent.

That brings me to your role in all of this. There’s one way we make it through this, and that’s together. I need you to speak out as much as possible, but I also need your help directly because I just took on an additional job.

I’m serving as Vice Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and I’m going to be spending the next two years working night and day to elect Democrats to the United States Senate. Every Senator we elect is another check on President Trump’s power, and if I can help that process along in any way, I am going to do it.

So — as we build power for the next two years, I’m asking you to chip in whatever you can to help me recruit and support Senate candidates across the country. $3 or anything you can afford helps, and it adds up fast when we’re all chipping in.
