[link removed] [[link removed]]John, we fought the British monarch in the revolution about this. And then we fought ‘em again in the War of 1812 (when the redcoats burned our White House!). Our nation was founded on the principle that presidents are in fact not kings, and they are not above the law.

Our founders didn’t just reject a monarchy—they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to create a new kind of government of, by, and for the people. A government where no one—not even the most powerful—is above the law. They built a system of checks and balances to ensure no leader could ever seize absolute power.

Donald Trump swore an oath to the Constitution that laid out these principles. Calling himself a king is an insult to everything that our revolutionary founders, and millions of Americans in generations since, fought for.

I’ll be damned if I let Donald Trump rule this country like a king. We have a democracy, one that I took an oath to defend, both in uniform and in Congress, and I will give my all to keep that oath. But I need you in the fight with me.
