It’s the “Weekend of Action” for Gun Safety!
We’re unleashing our grassroots power this weekend! In partnership with fellow gun violence prevention groups, we’re holding events across the country to demand legislators take immediate action on common-sense gun reform. We need voters everywhere to rally, protest, and flood their senator’s district offices to demand action. We’re also keeping the pressure on Sen. McConnell and President Donald Trump to call the Senate back into session to vote on gun safety legislation.
It’s time to show that from coast to coast, Americans are united against gun violence — and we refuse to accept inaction! Find an event and take action today.

We Took Our Demands to Capitol Hill
It’s been more than 150 days since lawmakers in the House of Representatives passed lifesaving legislation to expand background checks, yet Sen. McConnell refuses to bring the bill forward. We can’t stay silent. We joined lawmakers and survivors of gun violence on Capitol Hill to demand McConnell and the Senate #DoSomething following a spree of mass shootings. The room was filled with energy and emotion as survivors, health care professionals, and legislators shared their own connection to gun violence, pleading that the Senate return from August recess and pass gun safety legislation. Brady Board member, trauma surgeon, and gun violence survivor Joseph Sakran implored action to address gun violence in Black and Brown communities. Brady Vice President of Policy Christian Heyne shared how he began advocating for stronger gun laws after a man with a history of violence shot his parents, killing his mother.
"The cost of this inaction, the cost of Mitch McConnell not bringing these bills forward, let's be clear: it's human lives. It's more children that will not be able to call their mother when they go home."

Brady Takes Lawsuit Against Online Gun Dealer to U.S. Supreme Court
Brady Legal filed a petition in our nation’s highest court to review Daniel v. Armslist. The case was brought on behalf of Yasmeen Daniel, whose mother Zina Daniel Haughton, was shot and killed by her husband in 2012. The killer was prohibited from possessing a gun due to his history of domestic violence, but he was able to purchase one through Armslist, an Internet gun marketplace. We look forward to making our case before the Supreme Court in our fight to hold Armslist accountable and to secure justice on behalf of Zina and her family. Read more about the case.

Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) Hero of the Week
August 10 marked 20 years since the hate-motivated shooting at the North Valley Jewish Community Center (JCC) in California. One person was murdered and five more were injured. Loren Lieb’s son, Josh, and Donna Finelstein’s daughter, Mindy, were amongst those injured. Then and there, Loren and Donna made it their life's goal to advocate for stronger gun laws. They both played a monumental role in the historic Million Mom March, spearheaded by Donna Dees-Thomases, which helped shape Brady and today’s movement to end gun violence. Loren and Donna still lead the Brady San Fernando Valley Chapter today, and Mindy and Josh have gone on to become vital voices in the movement. We honor them all for more than 20 years of courageous leadership in the fight against gun violence.

Brady Quote of the Week
"I was in the audience when Lindsey Graham and the Senate Judiciary held a hearing on extreme risk laws several months ago. One of the people who spoke was Brady California leader Amanda Wilcox. She's responsible for basically every [gun safety] law that's been enacted in California. ... She talked about the need for extreme risk laws. She lost her daughter to gun violence. And I think Lindsey Graham was really listening."
— Brady President Kris Brown on Andrea Mitchell Reports, MSNBC, on why she thinks Sen. Lindsey Graham will take up gun reform.
