VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump officials finally turn on Elon Musk
Just one month into Trump's second term, Donald's newly deputized hatchet man Elon Musk has triggered a full-blown power struggle within MAGA land, complete with profound and completely unnecessary national security risks. Phony Stark put THE ENTIRE FEDERAL WORKFORCE on public blast last week, demanding every single one of them send an email to some random account justifying their continued employment by spelling out five things they did on behalf of the government last week. Failure to respond supposedly will result in termination. Aside from the impressively stupid scale of Elon's latest misadventure, it cannot be overstated what a HUGE national security risk such an endeavor poses. Asking hundreds of thousands of government employees — including FBI and CIA officials — to reveal potentially sensitive, and in many cases highly classified information, in a f*cking email to Musk's goon squad at DOGE is beyond parody. This coming from the party that ran its entire 2016 general election campaign on a "But her emails!" crusade. While some Trump sycophants have instructed their agency employees to comply, several Cabinet members have flat-out refused to do so and have told their departments to ignore Musk's demand. It is SO good to be great again!

Federal workers confront mass confusion as Musk’s deadline to list accomplishments looms
We just went over how mind-numbingly stupid Elon's "What have you done for the federal government lately?" crusade is, but the chaos and havoc it has triggered is truly astounding. Despite numerous Cabinet chiefs instructing their staff to disregard the ultimatum, hundreds of thousands of federal employees began their workweek today still facing a deadline to explain their recent accomplishments to the world's most famous ketamine popper or risk losing their jobs. Seriously. While lawmakers in both parties said that Musk’s mandate may be illegal and unions are threatening to sue, Trump called for the world's richest man-toddler to be more aggressive over the weekend in his cost-cutting crusade through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency and posted a — checks notes — SpongeBob Squarepants meme on social media mocking federal employees who "cried about Trump and Elon." VERY presidential. Gee, wonder what it might take to flood Elon's HR account with a million emails...

Hold the Line elevates the next generation of Democratic leaders
Hold the Line: If we're going to take on Trump and the MAGA movement, we're going to need strong, progressive leaders who are ready to do what it takes to protect our rights and our democracy. Hold the Line is working overtime to find, elevate, and empower the next generation of Democratic leaders in the face of rising Trump fascism. Will you chip in to help support the fight?
Trump's Dept. of Education secretary pick "wholeheartedly supports" his plan to dissolve it
Former entertainment wrestling executive Linda McMahon, whose qualifications for running the Department of Education include spending a single year on the Connecticut State Board of Education in 2009 and professing to have once considered becoming a school teacher, says she "wholeheartedly supports" the MAGA cult leader's plans to destroy the agency altogether. "President Trump believes that the bureaucracy in Washington should be abolished so that we can return education to the states, where it belongs," McMahon wrote, according to her testimony shared with HuffPost. "I wholeheartedly support and agree with this mission." Fun fact: Returning education "to the states" where it "belongs" is little more than code for letting mostly white, very conservative, and historically racist state legislatures adopt Christian nationalist-backed curriculums that whitewash American history, suppress LGBTQ and minority voices, and simply remove any learning materials that supposedly run afoul of whatever perverted versions of Biblical teachings far-right activists deem palatable. None of this is constitutional, of course, but that certainly isn't a concern in MAGA land these days.

Trump taps far-right conservative podcaster and conspiracy theorist Dan Bongino to be deputy FBI director
The MAGA cult leader announced the selection of yet another far-right conservative podcast blowhard and former Fox News host, Dan Bongino, to serve in his administration. Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, NYPD cop, and conspiracy theorist who once claimed his entire life's purpose was "owning the libs," is set to become fellow far-right nut job Kash Patel's deputy FBI director, filling a position typically held by a career FBI agent with extensive experience and knowledge of the bureau's byzantine operations. The position unfortunately does not require Senate confirmation. With Patel and Bongino at the helm, the FBI will run by the least experienced leadership team in the agency's 117-year history. This should end well.
Neo-Nazi group plots rebuild as Trump’s FBI chief takes helm, audio reveals
An international neo-Nazi terrorist group with origins in the US appears to be quickly rebuilding its global and stateside ranks, according to information obtained by The Guardian from its digital accounts. Founded in 2018, the Base has been the intense focus of a years-long FBI counter-terrorism investigation that has resulted in more than a dozen of its members arrested. It has plotted an assassination, mass shootings, and other actions in Europe, which made it a proscribed terrorist organization in several countries. By 2022, it seemed to disappear. Yet its founder and leader, Rinaldo Nazzaro, a former US special forces contractor residing in Russia, used the safety of Russian apps before the November election to recruit and reorganize during a tense political moment. The Base’s regrouping comes at a time when the Trump administration has made it a policy goal to move away from policing far-right extremism and during the appointment of Kash Patel — a MAGA acolyte who lauds January 6 attackers and has peddled QAnon conspiracy theories — to helm the FBI. Experts say federal law enforcement ignoring far-right groups such as the Base could expose Americans to increased domestic terror threats.
GOP Sen. Markwayne Mullin says he doesn't believe Russia plans to invade NATO allies
Oh, good. The Republican senator from Oklahoma doesn't believe Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator who has been in power since 1999, will follow through on publicly stated desires to rebuild a Russian empire and reclaim its geopolitical sphere of influence that sizeably shrunk following the collapse of the USSR. Mullin's comments come as the MAGA cult leader has taken an openly antagonistic approach with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, laughably blaming Ukraine for Russia's brutal invasion and vowing to freeze Zelenskyy out of "peace talks" with Putin to supposedly end the three-year war.
Florida sheriff puts seven cops on leave after bungled domestic violence response ends in triple homicide
Seven Florida cops have been placed on leave after their sheriff labeled the handling of a domestic violence case as "piss poor." Mary Gingles, her father David Ponzer, and neighbor Andrew Ferrin were all shot dead earlier this month, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said, while Gingles’s four-year-old daughter was kidnapped. Now, Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony said seven officers "fell short on" the case after receiving multiple calls from Gingles, who told them her husband was taking "steps" to murder her and was waiting "for the opportune time." Now, Mary’s husband Nathan Gingles has been arrested on several charges, including murder, kidnapping, and child abuse. Speaking at press conference last week Tony said, "Basically, we had a chance to save your loved one’s life and we failed."
