SENATE UPDATE: Trump is Making the Senate Work Again

Last Week
Howard Lutnick was confirmed as Secretary of Commerce (51-45).
Kelly Loeffler was confirmed as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (52-46).
Kash Patel was confirmed as FBI Director (51-49).
Senate Republicans passed a $340 billion budget blueprint that would increase spending for border security, domestic energy production, and national defense (52-48). This resolution is“Plan B” in case the House’s One Big Beautiful Bill strategy stalls in the House of Representatives.
Conservative Spotlight
MIKE LEE — Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced legislation to withdraw the United States from the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and other UN-related entities.
TED CRUZ — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced a bill to codify President Trump’s “No Tax on Tips” proposal in federal law. Cruz’s Commerce Committee will also be holding an important hearing on how Joe Biden’s open borders fueled illegal drug trafficking at the border.
KENTUCKY — Sen. Mitch McConnell — the Senior Senator from the Swamp — announced last week he won’t be running for re-election in 2026. This makes next year’s Republican Senate Primary in Kentucky one of the premier races of the election cycle for principled conservatives to pick up a seat.
MAKING THE SENATE GREAT AGAIN — Senate Republicans are confirming President Trump’s cabinet at a historic, breakneck pace. Only a month since Inauguration Day, 18 of President Trump’s 22 cabinet picks have already been confirmed, plus Kash Patel. And a budget resolution! Under Donald Trump, the U.S. Senate is working harder and faster than at any time this century.
This Week
The Senate will consider more of President Trump’s nominees with votes expected on:
Daniel Driscoll to be Secretary of the Army
Jamieson Greer to be U.S. Trade Representative
Two more nominations — Rep. Elise Stefanik to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Linda McMahon to be Education Secretary — passed out of committee and could be taken up by the full Senate any time.
