John --

When we started planning our panel on “Countering White Supremacy” with Congressman Adam Schiff, All Saints Church and IKAR, I had no idea that the need for this conversation would be highlighted by a week of back-to-back mass shootings attributed to white supremacy. White supremacist terrorism is the largest threat to everyday people. We’re taking a proactive approach to this problem and have published a policy paper that discusses the background of this issue and how we can move past it. We’re already working with allies like Congressman Schiff and his colleagues in Congress to make actionable change.

We presented Congressman Schiff with our paper on white supremacy.
During the panel, the Congressman quoted Bono, “America is just an idea”  and that was something that struck me right away as true. The values that make up the core of our country are just that: ideas. It’s up to us to make them a reality. That’s what our panel was about - going beyond thoughts & prayers - it truly was an evening of hope, love, community and concrete actions that we can take together.

Here is how we’re taking action:
  • Improvements to Hate Crime Reporting and Data Collection
  • Greater Research Into Terrorist Activity and Federal Terrorism Statutes
  • Better Data and Greater Transparency Into Counter-Terrorism Operations
  • Ensuring Social Media Platforms Enforcing Hate Speech Policies
  • Including Communities In The Conversation
Thank you for your support as we continue working tirelessly against hate and bigotry of any kind.

In service,
Salam

P.S. If you’re interested in conversations like these, we’ll be having more in-depth discussion on this at our 2019 Annual Convention on November 23rd
