Dirty money creates dirty water.

We decided to do something about it.

In August VoteWater published our "Dirty Money Project," a huge database of campaign contributions from polluting industries to elected officials at the federal, state and county level across south Florida. The goal was to illuminate how special interests like "Big Sugar" - Florida's powerful sugar industry - and others buy influence and warp water policy.

Ultimately we want to make dirty money so toxic even dirty politicians won't take it.

The project generated significant press coverage, interest from social media influencers and requests to expand our reporting outside south Florida.

In the coming months we'll update our database, do more original reporting and collaborate anew with our partners at the Jacobs Public Interest Law Clinic for Democracy and the Environment at the Stetson University College of Law on key "dirty money" topics.
