A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
Given all the activity from the Trump administration over the past two weeks, I wanted to update you on what’s at stake and how I’m fighting to defend Rhode Islanders from harmful policies. Right now, we’re up against an extreme agenda that threatens everything from Social Security and Medicare to economic fairness and equal opportunity. In the face of these challenges, I’m not backing down.
First, Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) infiltrated the federal government and gained access to confidential taxpayer information including names, Social Security numbers, and bank routing numbers. This is unacceptable. That’s why I went to the Treasury Department to push back and am a proud cosponsor of the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which would block people with conflicts of interest or without a security clearance from accessing this information.
On top of that, I’m fighting against President Donald Trump’s reckless trade war. This Trump tax policy can hurt those building homes, raise energy costs, and hike prices on everyday staples at the supermarket.
Lastly, Trump has signed dangerous executive orders that undermine our democracy. Whether it’s policies that could end birthright citizenship, fire independent government watchdogs, or fire civil servants for doing their jobs, I support efforts to challenge these actions in court and hold this administration accountable in Congress.
Congressman Amo answers phone calls from Rhode Islanders in response to the unlawful actions from the White House.
For these reasons, I office hosted a telephone town hall to hear directly from Rhode Islanders. During the event, we received questions from all over our district — from Cumberland to Newport — and covered a wide range of issues with thousands of community members. Your voice and involvement in our government have never been more essential, and I want to thank everyone who participated in the telephone town hall.
For those who were not able to join, I encourage you to stay connected by subscribing to my newsletter and signing up for future events at amo.house.gov/live. As always, please continue to contact our Rhode Island office at (401) 729-5600 to let us know what issues matter the most to you.
I’m working everyday to stand up for our Rhode Island values. I’m fighting to protect our democracy, bring down costs for working families, and oppose the extreme agenda that puts the wealthy over the vast majority of Americans. I’m proud to fight for Rhode Island, and I’ll keep working every day to deliver results for you.
Sincerely, |

I joined Democrats— and several hundred concerned citizens — at a press conference for the unconstitutional shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development's critical work across the globe. Their work is key to projecting American strength and values abroad. I will oppose the Trump administration and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk until these harmful policies are reversed. |

I observed a moment of silence on the House floor in honor of those who lost their lives in last week’s plane crash at Washington National Airport – including Christine and Spencer Lane from Barrington.
As Congress works to prevent such tragedies in the future, I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. |

We are pushing back in the wake of unconstitutional actions. I stood with my Democratic colleagues at the United States Treasury Department to demand President Donald Trump reverse course in giving Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to Americans’ personal data. Democrats will continue working to end this chaos. |

Congratulations to the Rhode Island National Guard’s new Adjunct General for Rhode Island, Brigadier General Andrew J. Chevalier!
I was honored to join the Change of Command Ceremony and thank Major General Chris Callahan for his over 40 years of dedicated service to our state. |

 |
I celebrated 50 years of the Earned Income Tax Credit with United Way of Rhode Island by discussing my work on the House Budget Committee to ensure no one is left behind.
I will continue fighting against right-wing attempts to cut programs for the many to pay for tax breaks for the well-connected few. |

Rhode Island Delegation Calls to Swiftly Increase Social Security Benefits
Congressman Amo and the state delegation joined union officials to call on the Trump administration to increase Social Security benefits for public service employees.
Thanks to the Social Security Fairness Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden last month, we are finally fixing unfair rules that have shortchanged many teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants. That is why our state's delegation is pushing the Trump administration to move quickly in implementing this law.
The more than 7,600 Rhode Islanders who will benefit from this change should not have to wait any longer. These folks worked hard, paid into Social Security, and deserve every dollar they have earned!
