LULAC Officially Launches El Pueblo Unido: A Resource Guide for Community Leaders
=================================================================================
Dear John,
LULAC is proud to announce the official launch of El Pueblo Unido [ [link removed] ] :
A Resource Guide for Community Leaders [ [link removed] ] —a
vital tool designed to help key institutions navigate recent policy changes
impacting immigrant communities.
This guide builds on El Escudo [ [link removed] ] :
Immigrant Rights and Resources Toolkit [ [link removed] ] ,
which we launched just a few weeks ago. El Escudo serves as a one-stop shop for
immigrants to understand their rights, prepare for potential deportation, and
access critical resources. True to LULAC’s legacy of using El Escudo—“the
shield”—to protect Latino communities from injustice, this latest resource shifts
the focus to empowering community leaders so they can support and defend those
most vulnerable.
On January 20, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security rescinded a policy that
protected sensitive locations—such as churches, schools, and hospitals—from
immigration enforcement. This rollback grants ICE broader authority to take
enforcement actions in these spaces, undermining public safety and sowing fear in
places that should serve as safe havens.
El Pueblo Unido [ [link removed] ] provides essential
information to help institutions respond to these harmful policy shifts. It
covers constitutional rights—including protection against unreasonable searches
and the right to remain silent—while offering practical guidance for those
working to shield their communities from harm.
Inspired by the powerful chant ¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido! ("A united
people will never be defeated"), this guide underscores the resilience of our
communities in the face of relentless attacks. Now more than ever, we must stand
together to ensure our communities have access to basic services without fear.
Please help us spread the word about these resources to anyone and everyone who
can use them. Together, we will continue to fight for dignity, safety, and
justice.
