During the 2024 election cycle, the American people became familiar with Project 2025. This document laid out Republicans’ plans to reshape our country if they gained control.
The plans in that document are the stuff of nightmares: firing workers without cause, targeting political opponents, ripping hard-earned retirement and health care benefits away from seniors, dismantling public education, and funding tax cuts for the rich by raising taxes on everyone else.
Over and over again, Donald Trump swore he had nothing to do with those plans.
On the campaign trail, he said, “I know nothing about Project 2025.” He promised, “I have nothing to do with Project 2025.”
He lied. Shortly after the election, Trump nominated one of Project 2025’s chief architects — Russ Vought — to oversee the government’s entire budget office, and attempt to make that nightmare a reality.
So earlier this week, my fellow Senate Democrats and I held the floor to protest Vought’s nomination.
Americans voted each of us into office to fight for them. They do not expect us to roll over and play dead.
Even if we’re in the minority, we can slow and limit Trump’s destruction. With every fight, we can build political power to put more checks on his administration and build the foundation for future wins.
I understand my assignment in the Senate, and I’m asking you to get involved too. Whether it’s running for office yourself, supporting a neighbor’s campaign, or getting involved in an organization taking action, we all have to continue to make investments in our democracy.
One of the best ways to do that is by making a contribution to the DNC as they work to elect as many Democrats as possible who will check Trump’s power. Anything you can contribute today will go a very long way as we work to strengthen our party:
