Team, yesterday I went to the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington with several of my colleagues to demand answers from Elon Musk’s DOGE about their illegal takeover of federal agencies.
They refused to let our group of United States Senators and House members into the building. They promised to speak with us, but never did.
Let me make something clear. Critical EPA programs for clean air, clean water and climate action have been unconstitutionally cut off. Over 160 employees who work on environmental justice have been arbitrarily put on leave.
Despite multiple court orders requiring the restart of funding, Trump officials have failed to release billions of dollars at the EPA that were authorized and appropriated to combat the effects of dangerous pollution.
We went down to the EPA for answers and accountability, and found none. And yesterday was the third time this week that Democratic lawmakers were denied entry into federal agencies that have been illegally slashed by Musk.
In case Trump and Musk forgot, Congress holds the constitutional power to set the budget and fund federal programs, not an unelected billionaire and his team of unqualified, unvetted minions.
I will not stop fighting on behalf of the American people — their clean air, clean water, lower energy bills, and livable future — until we get answers and funding gets restored. No business as usual. No votes for Trump’s nominees. No to the illegal funding freeze. And no workers left behind.
