John,

President Trump – emboldened by House Republicans – is spending his first weeks in the White House moving us from one constitutional crisis to the next.

He has handed Elon Musk access to the Treasury Department's internal and external payment systems. He moved to dismantle USAID and the Department of Education, attempted to freeze federal funding, started a reckless tariff war – the list goes on.

I’m especially angry about the conditions Trump is trying to place on federal aid to Southern California in the wake of the devastating wildfires.

I want to be clear with you, John, I’m not taking Trump’s extreme overreach lying down. I have a duty to the people I was elected to serve, and I intend to act swiftly when our rights come under attack.

Right now, that means advancing legislation and supporting litigation to block any unlawful actions this president takes. I’m also looking ahead to 2026 when we can take back the House and restore some much-needed oversight to this administration.

Thank you,

George
