Email from Rep. Dan Newhouse Better equipping wildland firefighters, supporting tribal law enforcement, and constituent meetings. Increasing Export Opportunities for Producers This week I introduced the Agriculture Export Promotion Act of 2025 to increase funding for the Market Access Program (MAP) and the Foreign Market Development Program (FMD), and help American farmers maintain an edge in the increasingly competitive global marketplace. This bipartisan legislation delivers farmers and ranchers in Central Washington, and across the country, the ability to expand their customer base and market their products abroad. Read More New Era of Wildfire Suppression Wildfires devastate thousands of acres in our area every year, and there is no sign of them letting up. While forest management is improving, we need to also prioritize better management to help mitigate these fires from starting in the first place. On Monday I Introduced the Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act of 2025 to boost aerial wildfire suppression and combat fire threats using excess military aircraft and parts. This bipartisan legislation delivers major assets to our fire suppression fleets for year-round management efforts. Our firefighters need all the help they can get, and allowing the sale of the Department of Defense’s excess aircraft responsibly leverages the assets we have for public safety. Read More Supporting MMIW Investigations This week, my colleagues and I reintroduced the Bridging Agency Data Gaps & Ensuring Safety (BADGES) for Native Communities Act. This bipartisan legislation supports tribal law enforcement with federal crime data to effectively investigate cases of missing and murdered indigenous women. Lack of access to essential data in investigations of missing and murdered indigenous women cases is a constant challenge for tribal law enforcement in Central Washington and across the country. This legislation is a huge step in ensuring investigators have the resources they need to coordinate across agencies and protect our tribal communities Visit from Grant County PUD This week I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Grant County PUD and discussing the growing energy needs in Central Washington. Washington State's population is expected to grow by over one million people in the next decade, and it's crucial we are prepared to meet that increased demand for reliable and affordable power. National Barley Growers Association Meeting Wednesday, I met with members of the National Barley Growers Association and discussed some of the challenges facing the industry. We had a great discussion about the importance of a Farm Bill which addresses the worsening conditions our farmers are facing like high input costs and low profits. As a third-generation farmer, I understand the difficulties Central Washington farmers face, and I am committed to fighting for a comprehensive Farm Bill that promotes the success of our region's agricultural industry. Talking Economic Development with the Chelan Douglas Regional Port of Authority On Thursday I had the opportunity to speak with the Chelan Douglas Regional Porty Authority about transportation and economic development in Central Washington. The CDRPA supports many industries in Central Washington, and I look forward to our continued collaboration! Colville Indian Housing Authority I met Vince McDonald the Vice Chair of the Colville Indian Housing Authority and discussed the importance of housing programs within the tribal community. We spoke about the reauthorization of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA), as well as adequate and sustainable funding for Indian Housing programs. I look forward to working closely with Vince and the Colville tribe to support affordable housing in our district. Washington Association for Community Health This week the Washington Association for Community health visited my office and discussed the importance of retaining and expanding the community health workforce in Central Washington. In rural communities like ours, lack of accessible healthcare is a major issue, and it is a priority of mine to expand rural healthcare and keep residents from traveling hours to receive the care they deserve.
