Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
This week, we were in the Great Ward 8 to celebrate promises made and promises kept [ [link removed] ].
When I came into office, I promised the Ward 8 community that we would deliver at the St. Elizabeths East campus. We said that the District would go in first, and we made good on that promise with our investment in the Entertainment and Sports Arena, where the Mystics won a championship in their first season in their new home. Yesterday, we announced that with a new partnership focused on community and health, the ESA will now be known as the CareFirst Arena.
CareFirst Arena
We are also delivering on our promise to expand health care access East of the River, and we’re just a few weeks away from opening a brand-new, world-class hospital on the St. Elizabeths East campus. On April 15, Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health will officially open in Ward 8, marking a significant milestone in our work to build a comprehensive system of care.

From health care to housing, from job opportunities to sports and entertainment, I’m proud of the transformation of the St. Elizabeths East campus – and I’m proud that there’s more to come.
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowserfb photo
