SARAH'S LAW IS NOW THE LAW OF THE LAND Last month, President Trump signed the Laken Riley Act, which includes Sarah’s Law — legislation that Senator Joni Ernst and I introduced in honor of Sarah Root. Illegal immigrants who harm or kill Americans will now be detained and prosecuted for their crimes. Feenstra and Ernst: Sarah's Law now law of land Last year, our country witnessed unthinkable tragedies at the hands of illegal immigrants. The murder of Laken Riley - a 22-year-old nursing student - shook our nation to its core Read More FARM BILL BREAKDOWN SERIES PART IX: GENOME TO PHENOME INITIATIVE REAUTHORIZATION ACT For the 9th edition of our Farm Bill Breakdown, we're covering my Genome to Phenome Initiative Reauthorization Act, which is in the Farm Bill. Last August, House Ag Committee Chairman, G.T. Thompson, visited Iowa State University to learn more about this initiative and its benefits for American agriculture. CUTTING THE FLOW OF DEADLY DRUGS INTO OUR COMMUNITIES AND EMPOWERING OUR BORDER PATROL AGENTS Yesterday, I voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the HALT Fentanyl Act to hold dangerous drug traffickers accountable for their crimes. Under President Trump’s leadership, we will continue to lock down our border, take on the drug cartels, and support our border patrol agents 100%. PROTECTING OUR VITAL TRADE ROUTES FROM CHINESE INFLUENCE Thank you to our great, new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, for advocating for American interests in the Panama Canal! Just like we must remain vigilant about protecting our farmland, we must also ensure that the Chinese Communist Party does not exert unfair nor unlawful control over this vital trading route. PRO-FAMILY POLICIES ARE GOOD FOR OUR RURAL MAIN STREETS This week, I led legislation alongside Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE), Rep. Stephanioe Bice (R-OK), Senator Angus King (I-ME), and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) to help our small businesses offer paid family and medical leave to their employees. PFML is a financial lifeline for workers when facing a medical condition or welcoming a newborn. INVESTING IN FOREIGN ANIMAL DISEASE PREVENTION AND RESPONSE The bird flu outbreak underscores the urgent need to fund foreign animal disease prevention and response. Under the leadership of House Ag Committee Chairman, G.T. Thompson, the Farm Bill that we passed out of committee did just that. Read our full op-ed in the Des Moines Register below! Money for foreign animal disease prevention is vital for US agriculture | Opinion The last House Ag Committee passed a farm bill; it needs to get to the president's desk to protect farmers, write G.T. Thompson and Randy Feenstra. Read More RECEIVING THE DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER ADVOCATE AWARD On Thursday, I met with the Iowa Primary Care Association to talk about rural healthcare and was honored to receive the Distinguished Community Health Center Advocate Award. Serving on the House Ways and Means Committee, I’ll continue working to ensure that our families in rural Iowa have access to affordable healthcare. SECURING OUR BORDER IS A TOP PRIORITY FOR ME Last week, I joined Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) and Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) — the authors of the Laken Riley Act — at the White House when President Trump signed this critical legislation into law. The Laken Riley Act includes Sarah’s Law — legislation that I led with Senator Ernst — to detain and prosecute criminal illegal immigrants. THE UNITED STATES STANDS WITH ISRAEL President Trump is Israel's greatest friend and strongest ally. I completely support his mission to protect both Americans and Israelis from vicious Hamas terrorists, reunite every last hostage with their families, and secure peace through strength. RECOGNIZING THE INCREDIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS MAKES TO OUR NATION I appreciate Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lamb and Staff Sergeant Hiroya Jordan for presenting our office with the seal of United States Marine Corps. It will be proudly displayed for all to see. I thank them — and all our brave men and women in uniform — for their service to our nation. CONTINUING MY PUSH TO SECURE FUNDING FOR THE 185TH This week, I sent a letter to our new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, requesting that ongoing runway and ramp projects at the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City be included in the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP) for Fiscal Year 2026. I'll always support the 185th, which is a source of great pride for the 4th District! HONORING THE BRAVE AMERICANS BATTLING CANCER Tuesday was World Cancer Day. We shared our unwavering support for our fellow Americans bravely battling cancer, rejoiced with those who have defeated cancer, and mourned those who have sadly passed away. WE MUST PROTECT OUR FLOCKS FROM BIRD FLU AND OTHER FOREIGN ANIMAL DISEASES Earlier this week, I was glad to talk to J.T. Dean — President of Versova Management and Center Fresh Group — about bird flu. With more than 147 million birds infected, we must keep investing in foreign animal disease prevention and response. Combating bird flu means lower egg prices for Americans! CELEBRATING THE INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENTS OF FEMALE ATHLETES On Wednesday, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, we celebrated and recognized the incredible achievements of female athletes in the 4th District and across the country. This day also serves as another important reminder that men have NO PLACE in women's sports or women's spaces. DISCUSSING THE FARM BILL AND WHAT WE CAN DO FOR OUR CORN FARMERS On Wednesday, I sat down with the President of Iowa Corn, Stu Swanson, to talk about the Farm Bill, the need to open new export markets for our farmers, and the importance of making E15 available at the gas pump year-round permanently. I’ll always stand with our corn growers! ONE LAST THING: PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION FROM UNWANTED ROBOCALLS AND TEXTS Predatory spoofed robocalls can be both annoying and potentially criminal. They put your consumer and personal information at risk. Read below for some tips from the Federal Communications Commission on how to stop unwanted robocalls and avoid phone scams: Don't answer calls from unknown numbers. If you answer such a call, hang up immediately. You may not be able to tell right away if an incoming call is spoofed. Be aware: Caller ID showing a "local" number does not necessarily mean it is a local caller. If you answer the phone and the caller - or a recording - asks you to hit a button to stop getting the calls, you should just hang up. Scammers often use this trick to identify potential targets. Do not respond to any questions, especially those that can be answered with "Yes." Never give out personal information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, mother's maiden names, passwords or other identifying information in response to unexpected calls or if you are at all suspicious. If you get an inquiry from someone who says they represent a company or a government agency, hang up and call the phone number on your account statement, in the phone book, or on the company's or government agency's website to verify the authenticity of the request. You will usually get a written statement in the mail before you get a phone call from a legitimate source, particularly if the caller is asking for a payment. Use caution if you are being pressured for information immediately. If you have a voice mail account with your phone service, be sure to set a password for it. Some voicemail services are preset to allow access if you call in from your own phone number. A hacker could spoof your home phone number and gain access to your voice mail if you do not set a password. Talk to your phone company about call blocking tools they may have and check into apps that you can download to your mobile device to block unwanted calls. If you use robocall-blocking technology already, it often helps to let that company know which numbers are producing unwanted calls so they can help block those calls for you and others. To block telemarketing calls, register your number on the Do Not Call List. Legitimate telemarketers consult the list to avoid calling both landline and wireless phone numbers on the list. If you or anyone you know has been a victim of one of these calls or scams, please report it to: FCC: Consumer Complaints MY WEEKLY COLUMN: BOLSTERING OUR BORDER SECURITY AND KEEPING FENTANYL OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES There’s no denying that the United States has an opioid crisis. Unregulated, deadly drugs have found their way into our urban centers, our suburbs, and even our rural main streets. Every year, these fatal substances indiscriminately kill hundreds of thousands of Americans regardless of age, race, or creed. There is no questioning what needs to be done. We must cut the flow of these drugs, often manufactured by foreign adversaries like China, and secure our borders.
