[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
On his first day in office, President Trump pardoned more than 1,500 people charged for crimes related to the January 6th attack on the Capitol, including many who violently assaulted police officers.
Now, the Department of Justice has removed a database that included information on every case related to the January 6th insurrection that was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
John, deleting the database appears to violate 44 U.S.C. § 3106, which requires that agencies notify the archivist upon the removal or deletion of federal records. But there is no indication that the DOJ reported the deletion to the National Archives.
That’s why we sent a letter urging the National Archives and DOJ inspector general to investigate.
We won’t let Trump and his administration get away with breaking the law again. That’s why we’re calling for this investigation. Donald Trump pardoned insurrectionists who beat police with poles and bats, used tasers and bear spray on officers and hurled objects like fire extinguishers and table legs into police lines.
Within hours of taking office, he sent a clear message that attempting to overturn an American election has no consequences.
But pardons and commutations don't change the facts. The events of January 6th were an insurrection and an attack against our democracy. We're not going to forget that, and neither will history.
But Donald Trump is trying to rewrite history by removing this information from the DOJ website.
John, we can’t let Trump get away with erasing history–and we won’t let him or his administration get away with breaking the law.
We need the National Archives and DOJ to take action and investigate, and we won’t stop fighting until they do.
CREW has always, and will continue to fight to force Donald Trump to follow the law. Please, donate to CREW today and help us fight for accountability → [[link removed]]If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your tax deductible donation will go through immediately to ActBlue Charities Inc. and be disbursed to CREW within 30 days:
