Good evening

I hope everyone has had a pleasant week.

Tuesday was World Cancer Day and I launched the new National Cancer Plan, as well as speaking on the need to improve radiotherapy accessibility.

Back home I was pleased to see the Tame receive 4000 fish, as well as visit Cedar Mount to see how Tesco are improving healthy eating in schools.

🐟 River Tame Restock

I'm very proud that the River Tame has been selected to receive 4000 fish, owing to a marked improvement in the water quality and watercourse environment.

I joined with the Friends of the Tame Valley, River Tame Anglers, Mersey Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency to see the restock take place.

🍏Tesco Fruit and Veg for schools - Cedar Mount🍎

Lovely to visit Cedar Mount to see all the work they’re doing in partnership with Tesco to promote healthy eating, high-quality food, and life skills for students.

It was great to try some of the fresh food cooked at the school, with their lovely fish and chips, and of course, keeping it healthy with an apple!

🏗️ Visual Architects

It was amazing to visit Visual Architects here in Denton, one year ago on the 22nd of January 2024. Their old building in Hyde burned to the ground, but they’ve rebuilt and, like a phoenix, have risen from the ashes of this to rebuild their operations in Denton.

🧬 NHS Cancer Plan

On Tuesday I launched the NHS Cancer Plan, in a very moving session of the House of Commons, with many MP's sharing their own stories.

I want to shift the dial on cancers, ensuring that more people get the treatment they need, and making sure more people survive cancer.

💊 Reforming Clinical Trials

On Monday I was grateful to debate the amendments to reform UK clinical trials regulation.

Clinical research is the single most important way in which we improve our healthcare, identifying the best way to prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions. These changes keep us at the forefront of international regulation.

🎗️ Improving Cancer Care: Radiotherapy

On #WorldCancerDay ([link removed]) , I joined colleagues in Parliament to discuss how we improve radiotherapy access. It’s an issue that’s not just political but also deeply personal for me.

My own father, who passed away two years ago from a rare and aggressive cancer, benefited from brilliant radiotherapy treatment. It gave him more time with his family, time that was precious. But I also saw firsthand how unequal access can be. With some travelling hundreds of miles to get the treatment they need. That’s not good enough and we're changing that.
🇳🇴 🇬🇧 Catch up with Aleksander Stokkebø

I caught up with my Norwegian MP friend Aleksander who used to sit on the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly with me.

Great to have a brew, a chat and to discuss our countries' shared interests.
My department announced a 5% increase for public health funding for Manchester City Council and Tameside Council, ensuring more people get the help they need.
£53.4m in extra funding was announced for GMP, which will help deliver a number of new officers for the service. Totalling some 13,000 new officers across the country by the end of the Parliament.
We announced an uplift to the minimum wage, worth some £1,400 yearly to a minimum wage worker. Helping to put more money in peoples pockets and drive up living standards.
ANDREW IN THE NEWS
I launched the National Cancer plan on Tuesday, in a very emotional session of the House of Commons, which you can read about here:

I was very happy to add an extra £200m to the public health grant, ensuring councils can provide vital services.
