[Your campaign brief for February 7, 2025]([link removed])
John-
This week, in his typical fashion, President Trump upended the discussion over the future of Gaza with comments that exposed the hypocrisy of Arab states in the region on this issue. The House of Representatives also passed a bill that has been one of my top priorities - the HALT Fentanyl Act, which will help us go after fentanyl traffickers and stop the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans.
As always, thank you for your support. I am already gearing up for my re-election campaign next year, and having you in my corner will be crucial to my victory in our March primaries in Texas. I am fighting every single day for you, for Texans, and for Americans and I want to continue that fight in Congress. [If you are able to donate to my campaign, it will help ensure I can stay in this fight.]([link removed])

Now, here's your brief.
HOW PRESIDENT TRUMP EXPOSED THE HYPOCRISY OF ARAB STATES
[WATCH MY INTERVIEW HERE]([link removed])
President Trump’s comments this week about having the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip sent a shockwave around the world. The White House stepped back and clarified those comments in the days after, but the reaction to President Trump’s comments may have been the entire goal of him making them in the first place.
His comments exposed the rampant hypocrisy that exists among Arab states as it relates to the future of Gaza and the Palestinian people. Every Arab leader blames Israel - and the United States - for the pain of Palestinians in Gaza. They don’t blame Hamas, or Iran, or Iranian proxies for the plight of Gazans. They blame us. But when America and Israel press Arab states to take Palestinian refugees from Gaza, or take any kind of responsibility at all for rehabilitating Gaza, the entire Arab world goes silent. That is the hypocrisy President Trump’s comments exposed.
This is President Trump’s negotiating tactic that we see over and over again. He starts from a position of strength and threatens something that causes an uproar, which brings every interested party to the negotiating table. We saw this recently with his threats of tariffs against Mexico and Canada, which led to concessions on securing the border and stopping the flow of fentanyl. If the past is any indication, President Trump’s comments surrounding the Gaza Strip this week will force key players in the region to negotiate a deal that has been elusive for decades.
Arab states need to step up. President Trump just may have forced them to do exactly that.
THE HOUSE PASSES THE MOST OBVIOUS POLICY IN THE WORLD
[WATCH MY FLOOR SPEECH HERE]([link removed])
This week, the House of Representatives passed the most obvious policy in the world: increasing criminal penalties for fentanyl traffickers. There shouldn’t have even been a debate on this policy, but of course House Democrats found a way to be against this. You can watch my rebuttal to their nonsensical arguments on the House floor in the video above.
The main argument pushed by Democrats against this bill is one we’ve heard before, claiming that permanently scheduling illicit fentanyl as a Schedule I drug will lead to “mass incarceration” for those who use fentanyl. That’s just not true.
Illicit fentanyl has been Schedule I since 2018—if their claims were true, we’d have already seen these so-called negative effects. We haven’t.
This bill doesn’t target users—it targets traffickers. The criminals lacing drugs with illicit fentanyl and killing Americans every single day. Letting temporary scheduling expire would mean weaker enforcement, weaker laws, and more lives lost.
The House did its job by increasing criminal penalties for illicit fentanyl dealers and giving law enforcement more tools to combat fentanyl trafficking. There was a bipartisan vote for this policy, but 107 Democrats still voted against it. Hopefully, the Senate will follow the House’s lead and swiftly send this commonsense policy to President Trump’s desk.
